Exclusive to Pro and Advanced account subscribers.
When selling Self-Fulfilled products, the photographer collects payment directly from their clients. For users with the Pro plan, two options are available for collection payment for these products.
- You can choose to not collect the payment and have the system only collect the order details. The order details will then be displayed in your account along with the client's contact information. You can then contact them directly to collect the payment.
- Alternatively, you can use PayPal to collect payments from your Clients.
Advanced plan subscribers have the additional option to connect an Authorize.net Merchant Account to allow payments to be collected through a credit card processor directly. Click HERE for more information on setting up a merchant account to collect payments!
Please note that these payment collection options only apply when selling Self Fulfilled products. Payments for Partner Vendor Fulfilled products and Digital Download products are collected separately. |
Collecting Payments for Self Fulfilled products using PayPal
To collect payments for Self-Fulfilled product orders using PayPal, you will need to set up a PayPal account before you can begin using this feature. We recommend using a Personal or Business PayPal account.
Please note: If you choose to connect to a PayPal account for collecting Self-Fulfilled payments, PayPal will automatically be connected as a Vendor/Digital product payment processing option.
After setting up the account with PayPal, follow these steps in your Zenfolio account to select PayPal as the desired payment collection method for Self-Fulfilled products.
- Hover the mouse pointer over your username in the top right corner. In the menu that appears, click on Account.
- Click on Selling in the menu on the left.
- Click on Collecting Payments.
- Under the "Collecting Payments for Self-fulfilled Products" section, mark the circle next to PayPal: Use PayPal to collect payments during the checkout process.
- Click on the Connect PayPal button.
- Log into your PayPal account.
- Review the terms of the connections and click on Agree and Connect.
- Then click on the Go Back to... button to return back to your Zenfolio account.
- Once you've provided your information, click Save.
Paypal Account Types:
- Personal: Recommended for individuals who shop and pay online, or wish to send or receive personal payments for shared expenses such as splitting of dinner bills or rental charges. We don't recommend that sellers open a Personal account to receive online payments, as the transaction fees are higher.
- Business: Recommended for merchants who operate under a company/group name. It offers additional features such as allowing up to 200 employees limited access to your account and customer service email alias for customer issues to be routed for faster follow-ups.
This information summarizes the difference/comparison between the two Paypal accounts.
Personal accounts are ideal if you shop online but do not sell many items. With a Personal account, you can:
- Make secure payments on eBay and merchant websites using your credit card, debit card, or bank account.
- Send and receive money from friends and family.
A Business account has all the abilities of a Personal account but adds many services. With a Business account, you can:
- Send and receive money.
- Make the same secure payments on eBay and merchant websites using your credit card, debit card, or bank account as you can with a Personal account.
- Apply for a PayPal Debit MasterCard®.
- Operate under your company or business name.
- Accept debit card, credit card, and bank account payments for a low fee.
- Manage users, allowing you to give separate access rights to each of your employees.
- Gain access to PayPal products that meet your business needs, such as Website Payments Pro or Virtual Terminal.
- Use PayPal Business Setup to set up your account in a short time.
- Apply for a PayPal Debit MasterCard.
Client Refunds for Cancelled Self-Fulfilled Products Orders
If the option to not collect payment at the time of order, or the Authorize.net (Advanced plans only) are selected, refunds must be issued outside of Zenfolio.
If PayPal is selected for collecting Self-Fulfilled order payments, the order can be cancelled and refunded directly through your Zenfolio account. The refund will be automatically issued to the client. It is however important to keep in mind that if you do not have any funds in your PayPal account balance to cover the cost of the full client refund, the refund amount will be charged to your card instead.
Service Fee Refunds for Cancelled Self-Fulfilled Product Orders
For Partner Vendor Fulfilled product and Digital Download product orders, the Commerce Fee and the Payment Processing fees charged when the order was placed are refunded back to the photographer when the order is cancelled.
For Self Fulfilled products, the Commerce Fee is not refunded when the order is cancelled. Unlike Partner Vendor Fulfilled and Digital Download orders, when payments are processed outside of Zenfolio, we do not have a way to verify that the order was truly cancelled and that a refund was provided to the client. Additionally, any payment processing fees charged at the place of payment is not handled by Zenfolio, so refunds on this fee will depend on the processor used to process the payment.
If an order was paid via the PayPal connection, all charges and fees will be reversed with the cancellation.
Please be aware of the following fees and costs when selling products through Zenfolio:
There is a commerce fee of 7% per order (calculated on the order sub-total, excluding tax and shipping) and an additional PayPal payment processing fee* (calculated on the order total, including tax and shipping). Payments collecting after the order is placed or through Authorize.net may also incur additional processing fees, please see your payment processors for more information about their fees.
*The exact PayPal Payment Processing Fee differs based on form of payment and location of seller. There may also be a difference in the Payment Processing Fee if the client is deemed international. Click HERE for more information regarding the fees involved with selling.
