Because of the way Zenfolio sites are created, the sites should not load slowly- it should load just like most other websites on the internet.
However, if the site is accessed using a slow Internet connection or there are issues that cause interruptions to the internet connectivity, you may see a delay in the loading of your site and your images.
Check the Zenfolio Status page
In these instances, we recommend performing some troubleshooting steps to help determine the cause of the issue.
- Before starting the troubleshooting, first visit the Zenfolio status page to make sure that the issue is not due to a technical issue on Zenfolio's end.
You can find the status page here - http://status.zenfolio.com/
Rule out any Browser Issues
After verifying that the slow loading is not caused by Zenfolio, follow the troubleshooting steps below to help determine the cause of the issue.
- Try visiting your site or account in a newly opened browser. Disable any add-ons or extensions currently enabled for the browser. See this link for how to disable browser add-ons.
- Make sure no other browsers, browser windows or tabs are open. Make sure there are no streaming sites or apps running in the background (like Youtube or Pandora).
- Make sure all other programs in your computer are turned off or disabled.
- Make sure that there are no overly restrictive settings in the computer's antivirus or firewall that would filter or delay the loading of data downloaded from the internet.
It may help to temporarily disable them to see how the site behaves with the program or setting disabled. Be sure to re-enable the program or setting again immediately after testing.
Run the Speedtest
If your site loading times do not improve, then this points to an issue in the local network that is causing the delays. In this case, run the speedtest to get a sample of the speed between your computer and Zenfolio.
- Go to www.speedtest.net.
- Click Go.
- When both download and upload test are completed the results will be displayed.
If you need more guidance please send the results of the speed test to Customer Support for further assistance.
Troubleshoot the Network
If you're seeing slow Download and/or Upload speeds, follow the troubleshooting steps below to see if it increases the speed.
- Make sure that no other computers, tablets or phones (in your possession) are connecting to the same network. Power them off if possible.
- If you are connected wirelessly, try to move to an area that has a stronger wifi signal. Move away from potential causes of interference like televisions, microwave ovens or cordless phones.
- If possible, try switching to a wired ethernet connection.
- Make sure that there are no overly restrictive firewall settings in the local network's router that would filter or delay the loading of data downloaded from the internet. This can also be an issue when accessing your site behind a highly restrictive office or work network such as those in government buildings.
If you're still experiencing delays in the loading of your site, the next thing to try would be to try a different network altogether. If possible, try accessing your site from a different computer on a different network.
It is very rare for a slowdown to occur that would affect an entire region as slowdowns are generally caused by the computer or the local network. If you're experiencing slow loading of your site, you will generally find a marked improvement when visiting your site on a different computer or network.
