When ordering prints and photo products it is important to have sufficient image size. Zenfolio's vendors have different requirements, depending on the product.
Zenfolio uses a built-in feature that will alert you and your clients during the ordering process if the photo being ordered does not meet the minimum pixel resolution required for the product you chosen.
Please note, this warning is not displayed when Pending Order Approval is enabled in the Price List. This is so your clients can choose from any size and you can replace the image during Pending Order Approval with a version that meets the minimum requirement.
Important Note About Meeting the Resolution Requirement
For the image to meet the product's minimum resolution requirement, the product must have enough pixels to print on the long sides of the product, regardless of orientation. That means that the image must meet the requirements for both the horizontally oriented version of the product as well as the portrait oriented version.
This is done to ensure that no empty white space can be printed on the product even if the image is rotated during the ordering process.
Example:
The 8X10 print from the US print labs require an image that has at least 100 pixels for each side of the print. If the print is portrait oriented, then the image would normally need to have at least 800 pixels wide by 1000 pixels tall.
If the print is horizontally oriented, then the image will need to have at least 1000 pixels for its width and 800 pixels for it's height.
So that the image can be printed in either orientation, the system will require that the image have enough pixels to allow for both orientations. So for 8X10 example, the image will need to have at least 1000 pixels for both its width and height. That means that if the print is portrait oriented, the image will need to have at least 1000 pixels for its width and 1250 pixels for its height.
MPIX, MpixPro powered by Miller's Lab, and MILLERS
The Millers family of professional print lab's minimum resolution requirement for printing photos varies by product. But for photographic prints and metal prints, they use photo imaging equipment with the minimum required image resolution of 100 pixels per inch (ppi). For the best results, however, we recommend that your images are large enough to print at 250 ppi or higher.
For example, to print an 8" x 10" print, the minimum image size required would be 800 x 1000 pixels. However, for best results, it is recommended that the image size be at least 2000 x 2500 pixels.
Here are more size requirements for other print sizes based on their minimum resolution requirements:
Print Size (In Inches) | Minimum Resolution (in Pixels) | Recommended Minimum Resolution (in Pixels) |
4 X 6 | 400 X 600 | 1000 X 1500 |
5 X 7 | 500 X 700 | 1250 X 1750 |
11 X 14 | 1100 X 1400 | 2750 X 3500 |
16 X 24 | 1600 X 2400 | 4000 X 6000 |
20 X 24 | 2000 X 2400 | 5000 X 6000 |
20 X 30 | 2000 X 3000 | 5000 X 7500 |
For Photo Books, their minimum resolution requirement is 250 pixels per inch. Every photo in the photo book must meet this requirement before they will print the order. Please keep in mind that when a photo is cropped or zoomed to fit into a photo book, it will decrease the number of pixels available for printing.
The minimum resolution requirement for the 12 month Wall Calendar is 1200 X 1800 pixels for the cover image and 1100 pixels X 850 pixels for the images printed with each month. Click HERE for more details.
Wall Clings have a lower minimum resolution requirement that varies based on the size of the wall cling.
Here are their minimum resolution requirements by size for Wall Clings.

Zenfolio Phone Cases Minimum Resolution Requirements
The phone cases require that the image have enough pixels before the image can be printed on the phone case.
It will not be possible to place the order for the phone case if the image selected does not meet those minimum pixel resolution requirements.
Whenever possible, it is best to use images that exceed the minimum pixel dimension requirements as it allows for additional cropping options when choosing the placement of the image on the phone case.
Here are the minimum resolution requirements for each phone case product:

Pikto
For best results, Pikto recommends that your images for photo prints, canvas wraps and giclée prints have at least 200 dots for every square inch of the print or higher.
fotoflōt
fotoflōt products are printed using photo imaging equipment with the minimum required image resolution of approximately 100 pixels per inch (ppi), but you may want to use higher resolution to enhance clarity and sharpness. A Durst Theta 51 machine is used to produce the fotoflōts at a resolution of 200 dpi, which is the recommended resolution.
For example, to print a 20" x 10" panorama, the minimum image size required would be 2000 x 1000 pixels. However, for best results, it is recommended that the image size be 4000 x 2000 pixels.
One Vision Imaging
One Vision Imaging uses photo imaging equipment with the minimum required image resolution of 150 pixels per inch (ppi). For the best results, however, make sure your images are large enough to print at 300ppi or higher.
For example, to print an 8" x 10" print, the minimum image size required would be 1200 x 1500 pixels. However, for best results, it is recommended that the image size be 2400 x 3000 pixels.
Nulab
Nulab uses photo imaging equipment with a minimum required image resolution of 200 pixels per inch (ppi). For the best results, however, we suggest images that are large enough to print at 300ppi or higher.
The recommended file type includes those with colour space of sRGB – 8 bit files only: no paths, layers or channels – flattened and saved with no compression. Nulab prefers JPEG files, saved as baseline standard – between 10 and 12 quality level.
