Upon uploading photos to Zenfolio, smaller, lower-resolution display images are automatically generated. These display images are the versions presented on your site.
This process is implemented to mitigate the risk of theft of your originally uploaded high-resolution images and to ensure that your images consistently load with minimal delay. Your original image files are preserved and remain unaltered. The original image file is utilized for order and download fulfillment.
The photos are converted to various image sizes using quality resizing algorithms. Each photo is made available in the following dimensions:
- Square thumbnail (60 x 60 pixels)
- Small thumbnail (80 pixels along the longest side)
- Medium thumbnail (120 pixels along the longest side)
- Large thumbnail (200 pixels along the longest side)
- Small image (400 pixels along the longest side for both horizontal and vertical photographs)
- Medium image (580 pixels along the longest side for horizontal photographs, 450 pixels along the longest side for vertical photographs)
- Large image (800 pixels along the longest side for horizontal photographs, 630 pixels along the longest side for vertical photographs)
- X-Large image (1,100 pixels along the longest side for horizontal photographs, 850 pixels along the longest side for vertical photographs)
- XX-Large image (1,550 pixels along the longest side for horizontal photographs, 960 pixels along the longest side for vertical photographs)
- Original photo (The original dimensions of the file you uploaded)
To manage access to photos and videos, you can specify the maximum size of the display versions that is available for your visitors to view. The primary reason for limiting image sizes is to provide an additional layer of protection against unauthorized use of your photos and videos. The default display size for newly uploaded photographs is set to X-Large, although this can be easily modified.
The X-Large image size is primarily utilized for Slideshow presentations and the Dim the Lights photo view. If you prefer not to enable X-Large display sizes, then Slideshow and Dim the Lights will default to the display size setting you have selected in the access control.
Additionally, you have the option to permit visitors to save smaller images based on the largest allowed image size. All images and thumbnails are accessible to the owner for direct linking and embedding.
