Original Photos Page: Enabling Guestbook and Photo Comments
By default, guestbook entries and photo comments are enabled. You always have the option of limiting or disabling these features.
This guide covers how to:
- Enabling/Disabling the Guestbook and Comments via Access Control
- Show/Hide Guestbook and Comments through Customize Website View
Enabling/Disabling the Guestbook and Comments via Access Control
- In your account, go to Photos.
- Under the organizer, click the gallery, group or collection that you would like to edit.
- Under the Details Column, click on Gallery Access, Group Access or Collection Access. A pop-up window will appear.
- Uncheck Same as Containing Group. (if necessary)
- Go to the Comments tab.
- Check or uncheck Allow Guestbook to Show or Not Show the Guestbook. You can also choose to check and uncheck the following options:
- Allow new private posts (only you can see them)
- Allow new public posts (anyone can see them)
- Allow new posts from users not registered with Zenfolio
- Public Posts must be approved before others can see them
- Check or uncheck Allow Comments to Show or Not Show Comments. You can also choose to check and uncheck the following options:
- Allow new private comments (only you can see them)
- Allow new public comments (anyone can see them)
- Allow new comments from users not registered with Zenfolio
- Public Comments must be approved before others can see them
- Click Save to apply your changes.
For the main guestbook of your site, you will need to make sure that the Guestbook is allowed for the top most group (normally called the All Photographs group).
Show/Hide Guestbook and Comments through Customize Website View
You can disable the Guestbook entry on your gallery thumbnails pages or opt to have it follow your Access Control settings by following these in Customize Website View.
- In your account, go to Photos.
- Navigate to the desired Gallery under the Organizer.
- Hover the mouse pointer over Preview then click on Customize.
The page will refresh with customization tools displayed at the top, confirming that you are in the customization mode.
- Go to Options.
- You may need to uncheck the box that says Use Default Settings For Layout, Theme, and Options.
- Go to the Guestbook tab.
- Select Hide or Show next to Guestbook (Or choose Follow Access Control if you have set your preferences in the account).
- Click Apply.
Once you set these page options you can click on Save as Default to apply the same settings to all of your other galleries that follow default settings. - Publish your changes before exiting Customize Website View to make those changes live on your site.
Also, you may want to do this at the photo page level as well so visitors cannot comment on the photos individually.

If selling is disabled in the gallery, you may need to go to the Photo Page to enable Comments. This is also done in Customize Website View.

- Go to Options.
- You may need to uncheck the box that says Use Default Settings For Layout, Theme, and Options.
- Go to the Comments tab.

- Click Apply.
