In most cases, uploading issues are caused by a browser issue, an issue with software or settings in the computer, or an issue with the local network.
To rule out any Zenfolio technical issues, please check our Status page first.
Below is a list of the most common causes of uploading issues, and how to troubleshoot them.
Uploading Issues Due to the Web Browser
A browser with conflicting add-ons and extensions can experience issues with uploading photos and videos, and it’s the same if the browser has a conflict with previously cached data.
Before performing any other troubleshooting steps, we recommend ruling out browser issues by uploading some images to the account using a different web browser.
If necessary, you can download current versions of these web browsers for free by clicking the links below:
Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Chrome: https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/
If you're able to upload using a different web browser, then we recommend performing the actions below to resolve most browser issues:
- Close all other browser tabs and restart the browser. Having many browser tabs open at the same time can cause issues with the performance of the browser. Also, there may be web pages in some of the browser tabs that are using up some of your Internet bandwidth.
- Clear the browser's cache. This will help to remove any conflicts with website data previously stored in the browser.
- Clear the browser's cookies. Alternatively, you can just clear Zenfolio-related cookies. It may also help to log out of your Zenfolio account then log back in—doing so will update the Zenfolio login cookie in the browser.
- Disable browser addons and extension. There are some browser security add-ons that block certain connections or limit or block uploads from the browser. Look for any such extensions, temporarily disable them, and then try uploading some photos.
Uploading Issue Due to Software or Settings in the Computer
Third-party programs installed on the computer can cause issues with uploading photos. Depending on its settings, some security software limits data from being uploaded or in some case, blocks upload data completely. Examples include anti-virus programs, anti-malware programs, and third-party firewall programs.
To see if this is the cause of the issue, temporarily disable the security software and then try uploading just a few photos to the account. If you're able to upload without any issues, then that points to the software as the cause of the issue.
Make sure to re-enable the security software immediately after testing to avoid potential security issues.
If the software is determined to be the cause of the uploading issue, review the program's settings to make sure that the settings are not overly aggressive and that it is not set to limit or block uploads to trusted websites like Zenfolio.
If necessary, you may need make an exception for data to be sent to and received from Zenfolio without any limits or any filtering.
Please check with your the manufacturer of the software for more information on configuring their products.
Uploading Issues Due to the Local Network
After browser issues, network issues are the next most common causes of uploading issues.
Common network issues that can interfere with uploads include:
- Wi-Fi Connection Issues. If you are connected to your network wirelessly, try to move to a different area that has a stronger Wi-Fi signal. Especially make sure to move away from potential causes of interference like TVs, microwave ovens or cordless phones.
- Overloaded Network. Some upload issues can be caused by a limited bandwidth for uploading data. This can happen with even the fastest internet connection when there are too many devices connected to the network at the same time.
This problem is especially prevalent when using older network equipment that is not able to efficiently handle multiple devices being connected to the network at the same time. To see if this is the cause of the issue, try temporarily turning off all non-essential devices that are connected to the same network, then try uploading some photos.
- Browsing from a Secure Network. Many offices have security measures in place that can cause issues when uploading images. This is a common occurrence when connecting to a network used in an office or in a government facility. To determine if this is the cause of the issue, and then try connecting to a completely different network then try uploading some photos.
Using Alternative Uploading Methods
If you're still experiencing an issue when uploading using the web-based uploader built into the account, try uploading the photos using one of the alternative methods displayed HERE
