Although the Zenfolio mobile applications for photographers and clients are still available for download and installation on mobile devices, it is important to note that they are no longer being actively developed or updated. |
In light of the mobile device-centric age we live in, Zenfolio created the “Photo Moments - Your Digital Photos Delivered” app in order for you to more easily share your work with clients who use mobile devices such as iPhones and Android.
The app allows your clients to access their Galleries in mobile-friendly presentations, download to their device, and share them with friends and family. Available FREE for iOS and Android devices, Photo Moments is a client-facing app with no Zenfolio branding.
How does it work?
IOS and Android devices are supported. Clients can download the free app at the App Store or direct download for Android, and simply add the Gallery you sent them via a special URL. From there, images are readily available to save, download and share with family and friends.
In case you need it, please see this section for information on how to disable downloading from the app.
What are the features?
The features available through Zenfolio will be carried over to the app, including:
-
Selling Photos and Products (Android version only)
-
Ability to download and save one or all photos, including different resolutions
-
Option for the photographer to disable just full-resolution original photo downloads or disable all downloads
Please note: the ability to purchase products has been disabled in the iOS version of the Photo Moments app.
How can clients view their photos?
When you send a Gallery Invite to your clients, they will receive an email containing a link to their photos. When your client accesses this email from their mobile device and clicks on the link, they will be able to view their photos in slideshow mode or regular photo browsing.
If they want to save a photo, they simply need to download it and it will automatically be saved to their phone’s camera roll.
Note: Your clients will ONLY have access to specific Galleries to which you have sent the mobile app link. Without the link, your clients will not be able to find, view or download your images using the app alone.
- iPhone and iPad users can download the free app at the App Store
- Android users can download the app at directly to their device
Photo Moment App Settings
There are a few options as to what your clients are able to do with their images when viewed through the app; these options are selectable and adjustable by you in Site Settings: you can choose the social media platforms to which your clients can share their photos; you can decide whether your clients are able to download photos using the app; and you can choose the Theme used for your logo and photos displayed in the app.
Again, these options are found in Site Settings in Customize Website View.
In the Main Menu within your account, hover your mouse pointer over Website then click on Customize Website.
The page will refresh with a new customization menu at the top, confirming that you are in the Customize Website View.
- In the Customize Website View, go to Site Settings.
- Go to the Photo Moments App tab.
- Select the desired App Theme.
- Enable or Disable the Social Media platforms to which your clients are able to share the images directly from the app.
- Enable or disabling the downloading of images from the app.
Please note: Downloading is enabled by default. Disabling downloads will override the image's Downloading settings in Access Control. - Click Apply to exit Site Settings.
- Publish your changes before exiting Customize Website View to make those changes live.
If a client has already viewed the images in the app and any of the above changes are made, the client may need to restart the app or refresh the Gallery in order for the new changes to be displayed in the app.
Important note about downloading: even with downloading disabled, it can be very easy to grab screenshots of images using a mobile device. If this is a concern, it is recommended that the images be watermarked, or that the mobile app link simply not be shared with the client.
Allowing Clients to View Images Using the App
This is very important: In order for your client to view their images in the app, they will need the mobile app link for their specific Gallery (typically sent in a Gallery Invite email). In other words, your client will not be able to view their Gallery in the app alone or without that link.
Emailing an Invite Containing the Mobile App Link
When emailing an invitation to view a Gallery or Group, you must check the "Include link for mobile app experience" box within the Compose Email view.
Keep in mind that the checkbox is only available on Galleries, Groups and Collections that are Public or Locked with a password. For Groups and Galleries that are set to Private, the checkbox will not be displayed.
An email that has been sent with the mobile app box checked will include (in the body and the footer) an embedded Gallery link as well as a link to the app store. The footer cannot be removed unless the photographer unchecks “Enable mobile app experience".
Finding the Mobile App Link in the Sharing Panel
Once a photographer shares the link (using either the Invite Visitors feature, or via a direct link: Details Column >> Sharing >> Share to Mobile App), and their client opens it in their device, the client is prompted to download and install the app.
Platform Specific Instructions for Using the App
iOS (8+)
After installation, your client may open the app, which should go directly to the Home screen. This screen will include your mobile logo (or display name if no logo has been uploaded).
Client Viewing
Your client may then swipe up to see their photos: tap on a photo to view the Gallery thumbnails or an individual photo, swipe left or right to view large images, or tap the Play icon to play a slideshow.
Client Saving
If downloading is enabled, your client will be able to save a single image or an entire Gallery to their phone in two or three sizes, using the Save to Device icon.
-
Low-res (size large, watermarked)
-
High-res (largest allowed, watermarked)
-
Originals (if allowed, no watermarks)
If you have set 'Large' as the largest allowed download, only the low-res option will show. See this guide on how to set the maximum size display image size allowed for download through the app.
The option to download copies of the originally uploaded full resolution image files will only be available if you have allowed the downloading of original files via Access Control.
When a download begins, a progress bar appears in the app. A downloader also appears in the side menu (which includes the ability to cancel download).
Client Sharing
Your client will be able to share Galleries via email, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the Share icon. Please note that those apps must be installed on the device in use in order for each social media service to be displayed.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: We actually recommend sharing only images that have been watermarked, since the downloaded images may be shared directly to social media pages belonging to your client. The share feature will share a link to the entire Gallery.
The Photographers Menu
It’s good to note that this app supports multiple photographers. Therefore, if a client has received links from multiple photographers, they can choose a specific Gallery to view by swiping sideways to choose amongst photographers.
Settings Menu
By default, downloads are permitted over WiFi only; however, in the Settings menu, your client may turn this feature off. In this menu, your client is also able to choose slideshow speed, slideshow order, and slideshow repeat options.
Contact Photographer Menu
A handy option for quick communication can be found upon opening the menu: it’s the Contact Photographer icon. All your client needs to do is open the menu, select the option, and an email draft (using the device’s native email app) will open awaiting their message. Please note that in order to use this feature, an email address must be entered into your Contact Information within your Zenfolio account.
Watermarks
All watermarks that have been applied to images in the photographer's Zenfolio account will display in the app as well. Keep in mind that we recommend sharing only images that have been watermarked, since the downloaded images can be shared by the client directly to their social media pages.
Password Protection
Password-protected images will appear with a lock icon and can only be viewed when the correct password is entered. Please note that if the Gallery has password-protected images and the password has not been entered, the Gallery cannot be saved to the device.
Visitor Sign In
The app does support the Visitor Sign-In feature (if this feature is enabled in your account). The initial image displayed in the app is only the Gallery thumbnail photo (which will show the watermark if it is applied). Upon clicking the thumbnail, your visitor will complete the required sign in fields, and you (the photographer) will receive a notification email.
Expiring Galleries
If a Gallery has been set to expire in the photographer's Zenfolio account, after the expiration date, your client will not be able to access the Gallery through the app. However, they will still have the option to email you, their photographer. Please note that images saved to a device from an expired Gallery will never be deleted.
Android (4.0+)
After installation, your client may open the app, which should go directly to the Home screen. This screen will include your mobile logo (or display name if no logo has been uploaded).
Client Viewing
Your client may then swipe up to see their photos: tap on a photo to view the Gallery thumbnails or an individual photo, swipe left or right to view large images, or tap the Play icon to play a slideshow.
Client Purchasing
If you are selling your photography for a profit and have enabled purchasing from the Gallery, your client will be able to purchase photos and products using the app.
To start the purchase of photos and products, your client will need to tap the Shopping Cart icon.
This will direct your client to the mobile version of the site where purchases can be made.
See this link for the specific steps for purchasing photos and products through the mobile site.
See this link for more details on selling through the mobile site.
